Tips for Moving Your Home Gym Equipment
Moving can be difficult and stressful, especially when it involves a lot of large and heavy equipment from your home gym that can be easily damaged. This equipment is heavy and not easily packed in moving boxes without taking everything apart which is not always possible.
Here are some tips for moving your gym equipment easily and safely helping to make your move go more smoothly:
Packing individual weights
When packing individual weights such as dumbbells, barbells, and other types of weight plates, it is important to take their weight into consideration. Smaller weights that are not as heavy should be wrapped in packing paper or bubble wrap to prevent the weights from clinking together. These weights should also be packed in multiple boxes so that one box is not too heavy to lift. Trying to lift extremely heavy moving boxes can cause serious injury. Heavier weights should also be wrapped in packing paper or bubble wrap but should not be packed in boxes because they are too heavy. They should be placed directly in the moving truck but should be secured so they do not roll around in the truck possibly damaging your other belongings.
Packing and moving an elliptical
An elliptical can be very difficult to pack and move due to its unique shape. The best way to pack this piece of equipment is to break it down and take it apart. This task is not too difficult since this piece will usually break down into only 4 pieces. The handlebars, pedals, base, and main console of the elliptical will be easier to pack and move than the whole piece. The individual parts can be wrapped in packing paper, bubble wrap, etc and can then be put onto the moving truck and moved more easily.
If you are unable to take the elliptical apart, make sure to secure the pedals when you move it and place it in the moving truck. If not secured, the pedals will swing while the elliptical is being moved making it more difficult for you. If you haven’t hired a moving company already, make sure to get some help when lifting this piece of heavy equipment into the moving truck. Being injured during a move will create added stress and difficulty.
Packing and moving a treadmill
A treadmill seems to be a staple in most people’s home gyms but this is also one of the heaviest pieces of workout equipment – treadmills can weigh a couple hundred pounds. To move a treadmill to your new home, it is best to follow the owner’s manual for any disassembly steps. If you no longer have the owner’s manual and cannot figure out how to disassemble the piece, you can fold up the piece, lock it closed, wrap it in moving paper or bubble wrap, and secure the treadmill in the moving truck.
While it is possible to move these heavy pieces yourself with some help, it is best to hire a moving company. When hiring a moving company, you are hiring professionals who know the best and most efficient ways to move this heavy and difficult equipment. You are removing the risk of injury and can be ensured that your equipment will arrive at your new home easily, safely, and without damaging anything else in the moving truck during the move.
